THE MAKING OF A PLAY. THE MAKING OF A YOUNG PERSON.
Over the next four summers, leading up to Boston 400 in 2030, Box Clever will pilot a bold and exciting youth theatre project. Each summer, a group of young people aged 14 to 19 will come together during the school holidays to create and perform a brand new play written especially for them.
Following the same process as professional theatre-makers, participants will rehearse in Boston and perform on stage at the end of the week. This is more than a performance opportunity. It is a chance for young people to grow in confidence, develop new skills, and experience the joy of working as a creative team.
The project is designed to be accessible to all. It will be heavily subsidised so that any young person in Lincolnshire can apply, regardless of their ability to pay.
The first Box Clever Summer Youth Theatre will take place from Monday 27 July to Saturday 1 August 2026. Sixteen young people will work daily from 10am to 4pm with professional artists and creatives from the company.
In the years that follow, the project will grow.
In 2027, we will expand to ten days with 20 participants
In 2028, two weeks with 25 participants
In 2029, two and a half weeks with 30 participants
And in 2030, three weeks with up to 40 young people performing West of Boston is America, a powerful new play about aspiration written to celebrate Boston 400
